Ever wondered what really goes on in an Educational Therapist’s Day? It’s not just worksheets and ABCs. It’s laughter, breakthroughs, sometimes chaos, and a whole lot of heart.
Learn about Educational Therapy
Step into our world for a day… you might be surprised at what you find.
☀️ 8:30 AM – The Calm Before the Storm (…Kind of)
Before the kids arrive, we’re setting up. Not just books and pencils… we’re talking sensory bins, movement stations, and brain-boosting games.
Why? Because learning happens when it’s engaging. A child who struggles with writing might start the day squeezing playdough to strengthen their fingers. Another who finds reading tricky? We’ve got colourful word puzzles ready.
Rule #1: If a child isn’t engaged, they aren’t learning. So we make it FUN.
9:00 AM – Session 1 (Let’s Get Moving!)
First student of the day! Let’s call him Jake. He’s got ADHD, so asking him to sit still for an hour? Not happening.
Instead, we:
✅Turn spelling into a game: Jump on letter mats while spelling words.
✅Use movement breaks: 3-minute obstacle course between activities.
✅Turn handwriting into art: If tracing letters is boring, why not write in shaving cream, sand, or even on a giant chalkboard?
Jake thinks he’s just playing but he’s actually strengthening focus, fine motor skills, and memory. Sneaky, right? 😉
11:00 AM – Mid-Morning Magic (and a Few Meltdowns)
Meet Sophie. She’s non-verbal and working on early literacy skills. Today, she’s using picture cards to match words. But 10 minutes in, she throws the cards. Frustration overload.
So, we switch things up:
🖍️ Instead of pointing at cards, we draw words on a tablet.
🎵 We put on a song with the same words because music helps memory!
🤗 Most importantly, we let her take breaks. Learning isn’t a race.
10 minutes later? She’s pointing at the words on the screen, excited. That’s a win.
1:00 PM – Afternoon Hustle (When Creativity Saves the Day)
After lunch, we meet Adam. He’s 6 and struggles with writing and focus. He hates holding a pencil. Writing time = meltdown time.
So instead of forcing it, we flip the script:
Fine motor warm-up – Playing with LEGO before writing.
Alternative writing tools – Markers, chalk, finger painting letters… whatever works.
Mystery story writing – He picks a character, and we build a silly story together.
By the end? He’s grinning, and he’s writing without realising it.
3:00 PM – Parent Check-Ins (And the ‘Homework’ Talk 😅)
Therapy doesn’t end in the session, what happens at home is just as important.
So, we:
✔️ Share what worked and what didn’t.
✔️ Give simple, doable tips for parents (no overwhelming “homework”).
✔️ Remind them, that progress isn’t overnight, but every little step counts.
6:00 PM – Wrapping Up (And Reflecting on the Day)
Some days are full of wins. Some days feel like an uphill battle. But every day, we show up, adapt, and find ways to make learning click for each child.
Because when a kid finally reads their first word, holds a pencil correctly, or focuses for a full session, it’s not just a small win.
💛 It’s a life-changing moment.
