From Overwhelmed to Organised: How Feuerstein Transformed a Child’s World

What if there was a way to help your child feel less overwhelmed?

What if there was a way to help your child feel less overwhelmed?

It’s more than just schoolwork. Most children are struggling not just to finish assignments, but to organise their thoughts, complete simple tasks, or even explain what they’re thinking. It’s like knowing what they want to say or do, but something just doesn’t click.

This isn’t just about school; it’s daily life too.

Sound familiar? This was the reality for one child before therapy.

The Struggle

Before therapy, this child’s world felt disorganised. Simple tasks like starting homework, explaining thoughts, or completing daily routines became daunting mountains to climb. The challenges were everywhere:

  • Starting & Completing Tasks: Planning was a nightmare.

  • Communication Issues: Articulating thoughts felt impossible.

  • Erratic Behaviours: Turn-taking and focusing were difficult.

  • Feeling Overwhelmed: Prioritizing school and daily activities was a constant struggle.

These struggles weren’t just frustrating—they were confidence-shattering, leading to frequent academic underperformance.

The Feuerstein Approach: A True Game-Changer

The Feuerstein Approach: A True Game-Changer

What if your child could learn how to think, not just what to think?

Enter the Feuerstein Method - a cognitive intervention designed to improve thinking and learning abilities. The key? It teaches children how to think, not what to think, helping them become more flexible and adaptive.

Here’s what we focused on:

  1. Cognitive Adaptation: We worked on improving the child’s ability to adjust their thinking when facing new situations. This was a game-changer, helping them organize and plan more effectively.

  2. Mediation: I acted as a mediator, guiding the child through tasks by breaking them down into smaller, more manageable parts. This reduced the feeling of overwhelm and made planning easier.

  3. Focused Attention Exercises: These activities helped the child improve their ability to concentrate, reducing distractions and boosting their capacity to stay on task.

Step by step, the child learned not just to manage tasks - but to grow well.

The Transformation

After several sessions using the Feuerstein method, the child’s progress was astounding. We started to see real progress in how the child managed their thoughts and tasks.

Here’s what changed:

  • Task Management: Complex school assignments became less intimidating, with tasks broken down into manageable steps - like school assignments, into smaller, more approachable steps.

  • Improved Sequencing: Articulating ideas clearly and logically became second nature, making their speaking and writing much clearer.

  • Increased Focus: Distractions became less of an issue. The child was able to concentrate for longer periods, finishing tasks with much less frustration.

  • Academic Improvement: With better planning and organization, subjects like math and writing, which once seemed impossible, became manageable.

What Made the Difference?

It wasn’t just about the skills—it was about the confidence.

Each small victory helped the child regain control of their world, advancing not only academic performance but also self-esteem. It was more than just progress—it was hope for the future.
